Needle For Project
Okay...first post in a looonnngggg time. Anyway, a friend of mine has a Project with a busted needle he's willing to sell me for about $50, so anyone that knows about tables would pick this up and just stick a new needle on it. However, I am a bit of an idiot :P
I'm not sure what needle can or cannot go on the turn (if there's any difference between them), if I can only use a special one from project, etc. I'm looking to spend as little money as possible right now as I don't have a whole lot since I'm saving for college. I'll just buy a nicer needle in the future. Thanks!

I think it would be helpful to have the model of the table and see what kind of stylus it already has. Doing some searching assuming you're getting a debut I took a look at needledoctor.com and here is the link to the accessories they have for them. http://www.needledoctor.com/Pro-Ject-Debut-III-Turntable-Multicolor?sc=2&category=352. The people there are helpful I'm sure you could always email them too explaining you got it at a good deal etc. what could you use to replace it. They may also be able to tell you if you need a new stylus or a whole new cartridge.
I was also able to find this regarding replacement needles. http://www.needles-and-spins.co.uk/project_debut_faq.cfm

awesome thanks! Another question that's gonna make me seem like a complete idiot, what's the diff between a cartridge and stylus? I thought the cartridge was the whole housing where the needle was and the stylus was the arm the cartridge is attatched to.
Here, hope this helps!!
So the stylus is mounted to the cartridge? When buying a new w/e do you have to buy all this seperate? I hardly know anything about tables and how they work if you couldn't tell.
You can buy it all together or separate depending on your needs. For example if the only the stylus is jacked up, bent, broken off etc. you could probably just get a new stylus to mount on the cartridge you already have. No worries about not knowing much, this are the exact type of situations that cause people to learn new stuff.

Yeah man, i knew nothing about TT a few months ago, and since then have dived in and repaired two different ones. It's all a learning process, but a bit of adivce, if you can get off just buying a new sylus/needle that is MUCH cheaper, and easier to change. Also if ur stuck you can take a pic and post it, i'm sure somebody can help. If we can't help there is a message board at http://www.vinylengine.com they are all really good at fixing up TT, I have gotten countless advice from them. Good luck!!
